Guide: choose the right packaging

Start with the product, logistics and use case to find functional and cost-effective packaging.

Guide to choosing the right packaging

QUICK SELECTION GUIDE

Start with the product – not the packaging

Choosing the right packaging does not have to be complicated. Good packaging always starts with the product and what it must withstand during transport, storage or sale.

You have the product – we have the expertise to find the best packaging solution together. See also our packaging solutions and packaging videos .

When are custom dimensions needed?

Packaging made to your own dimensions often optimises both function and cost. It is especially useful in e-commerce, industry and for special products.

  • Minimise empty space
  • Reduce transport costs
  • Improve protection
  • Avoid unsuitable standard sizes
  • Create an appearance that fits the brand

When is paperboard suitable?

Paperboard packaging is particularly suitable when appearance is as important as function.

  • The packaging is part of the presentation
  • High-quality printing is required
  • The product is light
  • The brand should be visible

MATERIAL SELECTION

Corrugated grades and applications

The flute profile affects strength and use. The grammage of the paper layers can also be adjusted so that cushioning, appearance, protection and handling meet the product’s requirements. We help you choose the right grade throughout the process.

F

Microflute

A very thin profile and smooth surface for small packaging, high-quality printing, sales packs and gift boxes.

E

E flute

A thin but rigid material with a good printing surface for consumer packaging and light products.

B

B flute

A common grade with good compression strength for transport packaging and general use.

C

C flute

A thicker structure with better cushioning for heavier products and longer transport.

BC

Double wall

Two fluted layers and very high strength for heavy transport packaging and demanding conditions.

QUICK DECISION

Choose by intended use

01

Small and light products

E or F flute, or paperboard, provides a good balance between protection and appearance.

02

E-commerce shipments

B or E flute generally provides sufficient strength for transport and mailing packaging.

03

Heavier products

C or BC flute provides better protection and durability in transport.

04

Sensitive products

Choose stronger corrugated board and a custom structure. An insert keeps the product in place.

05

When appearance is decisive

Paperboard, F flute or E flute works well. Litho-lamination enables very high-quality printing regardless of the corrugated grade.

Logistics and costs

Well-designed packaging affects the entire supply chain.

  • Lower transport volume
  • Less void fill
  • More efficient packing and handling
  • Fewer damages and returns

Order quantity

The appropriate quantity depends on demand and storage capacity. Higher volumes usually improve the unit price. Typical quantities range from hundreds to thousands of pieces, but smaller runs are also possible.

A more sustainable solution

Corrugated board and paperboard are recyclable options. An optimised structure reduces material use and transport emissions and makes the overall solution more environmentally responsible.
