Sustainability reports
Environmental goals and completed actions
Fossil-free purchased electricity
Operations use only fossil-free purchased electricity. Our own solar plants cover about 40 per cent of annual electricity demand.
Renewable diesel
The steam boiler was converted to Neste MY diesel, reducing the boiler’s carbon dioxide emissions by an average of 90 per cent.
More solar energy
The solar power plant was expanded by approximately 100,000 kWh of annual production.
Water recycling
The corrugator’s closed cooling system saves approximately 1.2 million litres of fresh water each year.
Solar plant expansion
A 108 kW solar energy system was installed on the roof of the new warehouse.
Geothermal heating
The printing plant’s oil heating was replaced by geothermal heating. The former system used about 15,000 litres of oil per year.
Solar power plant
A solar plant was built beside the printing hall to supply electricity to the offset press and the building.
Energy efficiency
Windows and doors were renewed, roof insulation was improved and the heating system was assessed to reduce oil consumption.
Waste heat recovery
Heat from the printing press was recovered for space heating and lighting was converted to LED technology.
Less start-up waste
Printing start-up waste was reduced with an inline colour measurement and control system.
Baling production waste
Baling reduced transport and enabled paper waste to be delivered directly to the paper mill.
Reuse
A return system for packaging boxes and container lids enabled boxes to be used an estimated three to five times.
Cleaner processes
Oil cleaning reduced waste oil, water-based offset varnish improved the work environment and process-free plates eliminated developer chemicals.
Responsibility for the economy, environment and people
Bestpak complies with legislation, regulations and the principles of the UN Global Compact. Profitable, competitive operations provide the foundation for meeting commitments to customers, employees and other stakeholders over the long term.
Environmental responsibility
Bestpak identifies its environmental impacts and reduces them by cutting energy waste and recycling production offcuts.
Social responsibility
Skilled and motivated employees are our most important resource. Equal treatment, well-being and competence development are central principles.
Economic responsibility
Profitability and competitiveness safeguard the company’s vitality and its ability to meet responsibilities to customers, employees and other stakeholders.
