Handling and storage of packaging

How packaging retains its quality

Carton and corrugated board react to moisture, heat, sunlight and mechanical loads. Correct handling and storage preserve the packaging’s performance, shape and print quality until it is used.

Follow these seven instructions:

Packaging stored protected on a pallet

Keep packaging in its original wrapping, protected with plastic and secured with straps. This shields it from dirt, dust and fluctuations in humidity.

A pallet of packaging moved with a forklift

Use a pallet truck or forklift when moving pallets of packaging. The material is sensitive and may be damaged by incorrect handling.

Packaging protected from direct sunlight

Protect packaging from direct sunlight. UV light can fade both printing inks and the material itself.

Do not stand on packaging

Do not stand or walk on packaging. It can deform and develop permanent marks.

Bundles of corrugated board stored flat

Do not store bundles of corrugated board on their edges. They bend and deform easily.

Humidity controlled in the warehouse

Store packaging at approximately 50% relative humidity. Air that is too dry makes the material brittle and can cause cracks at folds as well as warped or bowed packaging.

Straps and protective plastic kept on the pallet

Do not remove pallet straps or protective plastic before use. Sudden changes in humidity can cause the material to twist or bend.
